Harry Potter theme wins Children's Classics Poll
The Harry Potter theme, written by John Williams, has been voted the number one children’s classic by Classic FM’s younger audience. Other contemporary film themes including Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean and E.T. all charted high in the poll. The emotive nature of classical music and its ability to induce childhood memories is reflected in the high number of votes for older favourites such as Peter and the Wolf, Swan Lake and Fantasia.
To celebrate the inaugural Children’s Hall of Fame, Classic FM and Decca Records are launching a brand new 2-CD Children’s Classics album. The 39-track compilation, released on Monday 23rd November, features many of the pieces of music voted for by Classic FM’s listeners, including the Harry Potter and Jurassic Park film themes, plus classics from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty, as well as Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf and Romeo & Juliet.
