Stevie Hoang
Born in Birmingham, raised in London and with Chinese heritage, Stevie’s aspiration is to take his East-meets-West background to propel him to becoming the first oriental RnB star in the UK, and it looks like he is set to achieve his goal. Influenced by the likes of RKelly, Usher and Ne-Yo, Stevie’s unique approach to RnB combines the best of UK, US and his own oriental sounds, and he is poised to conquer the UK charts in 2009.
“When I was growing up I was surrounded by RnB and hip hop and it was all my sister would play around the house and in the car. It was also what my friends were into and I got to love it too,” says Stevie. But it wasn’t until he studied music technology at college that he really became serious about music as more than just a hobby, “After learning about the studio and how to make beats, that’s what really got me excited and interested, and I realised it was truly what I wanted as a career.”
In 2006 Stevie self-released his first album in the UK where he successfully sold 5,000 records, but it was Japan that really embraced Stevie’s debut album. With a distribution deal from Japanese company ‘Lexington’, Stevie went on to tour Japan, something that he describes as one of his best experiences to date.
In April 2009, Stevie completed a 20-date tour of the UK with current chart stormers Tinchy Stryder and N-Dubz. His single “Addicted” was released in May 2009 which led to recently signed a record deal with Mercury Records. Watch out for his next single in October.
Stevie has recently finished a two-week tour around Japan, to promote his forthcoming album for the SE Asian market. He is currently finishing production on his debut UK album. The first single is ‘No Coming Back’ out on Mercury, March 8th.
