Tribes

Tribes formed in the summer of 2009 over a love of hard rock, 90's grunge, pavement and a shared idea of wanting to be in a good band.  ‘We just wanted to form a band where everyone has fun, that was it really'.

Early rehearsals were shambolic heavy delves into nowhere usually taking place late night at someone's flat or some reduced rehearsal room. It wasn't until late August when songs started appearing and things took shape. ‘We just knew we wanted to be heavier than everyone else but keep the soft bits quiet and still write pop songs', Johnny says of the early idea of the band. ‘ We never really tried to rush anything, we just write quickly and like to rehearse a lot' .

By October the band were playing secret shows in Southampton and Manchester. ‘Our first few shows were chaos, everything broke, we barely knew the songs but by Christmas we were kicking ass'. Says drummer Miguel. Early 2010 had the band recording and playing shows for the first time as Tribes at venues including Camden Towns KOKO and there first chaotic sold out headline show at Kentish Town's Flowerpot. ‘People have really got behind us in North London it's been great' says Jimmy of the bands new live following. ‘I think people like it cause its simple and most of the songs are about things that happen to you in real life... normal things like girls and sex and TV..'

This summer the band will be releasing there first single ‘Whenever' on their own label and doing their first mini tours in support of it. ‘We chose the single cause we love the song and feel like its been with us over the last few months through everything so it should go first. The B side's a home demo of mine, we want people to see the process of how the songs are written and kinda share in it, I think the raw element has been pushed out of music in the last few years, rock and roll shouldn't be about polished production and perfect hair cuts that's bullshit'.

Tribes debut single 'Whenever' is released on the July 26th
